A Small World with Big Stories

I went to Lombok with my parents and my sister, Gaya, to spend Christmas holiday for 3 days and 2 nights. Me and Gaya took funny and crazy pictures, mostly surrounding the hotel where we stayed. There was an interesting experience when we were heading to Gili Trawangan Island. We went on a private small boat. In the middle of the sea we suffered from strong wave and crazy wind. Our boat was jumping up and down. The wave was 2 meters high hitting our boat. It seemed that we were the only human in that ocean at that time. My dad terribly had a sea-sick and our clothes were all soaking wet. Realizing that we only had two life-vests while we were 5 people altogether, we turned around the boat and headed back to our hotel. I will see the island sometime...., without someone who has sea sick in the same boat with me for sure.
On May 27, 2006 at 5:54 am
local time, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake rumbled through the Indian
Ocean approximately 25 kilometres south of Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
The devastating quake killed well in excess of 6,000 people. In this
very dense region, one of the most dense in the world almost 1.5
million people were left homeless.
My team, known unofficially as the Mediocre Crisis Response Team has
worked tirelessly throughout the past six weeks to bring aid and a
little comfort and support to the victims of this horrible tragedy.
Over this period we spent 20 days going on runs to the affected
regions, we also spent time volunteering at hospitals and alongside
other NGOs that had nore manpower than ourselves and also ran very
interesting programs. In total, we gathered almost $6,800CDN in
donations, no small sum and we thank all of people who gave. This
number also includes donations from members of my team, between
volunteers, english teachers, young parents and students, we gave
all we could, many broke the bank on this!
