A Small World with Big Stories
ORB – The Way Scientists
Believe in Ghosts!!

If you think that no one but Asian people believe in ghosts, you
could be wrong! I found out that 40 percent of people living in UK
believe in ghosts. According to a survey, 1 out of 7 people reported
to have already seen a ghost. British people name them in various
ways : wraith, spunkies, shagrins, hag of dribble, and so on. Many
old castles in UK possess untold stories of murders, betrayals,
miseries, desperations, and many other horrific occurrences that
happened years ago in those places; thus those castles seem to be
cursed and haunted by the spirits –that later are called as a
residual haunting. That’s why bunches of people reported that they
saw figures wearing old fashion clothes spooking around the
buildings.
When talking about the ghost phenomena, people refer to the Science
vs Superstition argument which seems to have no end. Investigation
about ghost, nowadays, involves the use of sophisticated tools such
as : infra red camera recorders, E.V.P detectors, motion sensors,
and thermal scanners. Scientists are merely taking the main role in
the investigation while the psychics are given minor parts, or are
even left behind, in this kind of research. Science looks down on
“para-scientists” (the polite way to call the psychic, shaman, etc)
as people who cannot use the scientific method and who are not able
to think logically. Scientists consider these beliefs (para-scientists)
to have no more place in their field of study. They do not need
items of religious faith to explain natural phenomena. So, demon and
angel, you have to wait your turn!
The term ORB does not always refer to a ghost or a spirit; it is how
we describe the shape of anomaly. However, people still think that
ghosts are somewhat a spirit orb. So we should not be confused by
this general fallacy. An orb is (according to the International
Ghost Hunter Society -IGHS) a spirit entity that is all around us
all of the time, and can be seen at times when Earth itself emits an
above normal amount of energy. They believe that orbs are spirits
for a number of reasons : EVP detectors (when positive EVP
recordings have been discovered, orbs are usually captured in the
photograph near the detector), mediums/psychics (they say “I can
feel a presence next to me, orbs can be captured next to them once
photographed upon the remark), cold spots (when areas of cold spots
are photographed, orb can sometimes be captured), and haunted area
(orbs appear in the places which are reputedly haunted).
Some people, nevertheless, doubt how we can define an anomaly as an
orb instead of dust, moisture, pollen, or even insects! One of
reliable evidences that one can obtain that an anomaly is an orb is
if it leaves a contrail. No physical anomaly will leave a contrail
because these anomalies are moving slower than the shutter of the
camera. That is why to capture an orb, a digital camera is required,
or a 35 mm manual camera at the least. An orb is a composition of
intelligence, personality, emotion, and do not forget to mention
energy. The size of the orb varies depending on the level of the
energy the source has at that time. Furthermore, the level of energy
also effects the manifestation of the identifiable features of
human. The basic orb shape might represent the spirit in its most
‘at ease’ state, while other activities, such as trying to
communicate with the living, might require much more energy –it is
possibly a process that some spirits find hard to perform, or
perhaps something they have to learn over time.
Other facts about orbs :
- they have a typical structure : granular center, membrane, and
outer area
- they often appear next to people
- they tend to appear in the same areas
- most orbs photographed are stationary, however some do move.
